Answer for: How can the medical discharge process be improved?
#2 Send all medical documents to the
SPVA
At least 4 weeks before the final board so that War Pension paperwork can be prepared in advance of discharge.

The Medical Board has already made its mind up before the service person goes in to the meeting. therefore wouldn't it make sense to have the percentage of disability and all medical documentaion photo copied and presented to the medically discharged person at that final meeting.
Within the present system of the Medical Discharge, the soldier will have no idea of their percentage of disability being made ( the amount in cash per month for their war pension, less than 20% is a one off payment). There will be no future medical treatment booked or appointments made. The housing needs and welfare support is also unknown ( The soldier and his family will never be offered help in this area by the MoD)! The Royal British Legion ends up having to take control of this area......
The loss of medical documents within the MoD is rampant. If the injured soldier has failed to ask for copies of their medical documentaion before leaving the forces, then they will find it very hard to get any real help in getting copies for future legal cases.
I look forward to replies from all those interested in this topic.

The problem the SPVA welfare teams are suffering at present is the closure of their county sites. To be permitted to visit a veteran in need-they require to get permission from above and there needs to be several veterans in that county needing help or aid.
I highlighted my experience of trying to access the VWS here: http://veterans-uk.ws/answer/35/ They only acted after the SPVA hierarchy referred (blood from a stone). I believe the VWS could do much more if their hands were untied and they were given the right resources.
I continue to get veterans asking me how / why their service documents have gone missing. Many service veterans that have been Medically Discharged have been failed by the new pay system. Their pensions haven't been calculated correctly or they have no war pension paid to them. I have spoken to 2 people in the last month about this very problem. They have said it's due to the computorised pay system currently being used and the failure of those at Glasgow to tie in with Norcross and other pay agencies...
